Janet Walker. Febr. 16th 85.
Of case of this patient reckon it necess to say very little. For after first prescript have seen nothing more of her in this place And as have heard nothing [respec] her am ignor of condit of disease & have had no opport of judging of it from acquaint with progr. As far however as could form judg from hist now read, was disp to look upon it as of very alarm nature And indeed to consider it as being an inst of Phthisis. Of this, some presumpt at least, from severe cough, attended with violent pain of side, affecting breathin to very consid degree. This presumpt not a little strength. by const. quickness of pulse But still more by feverish exacerb. every afternoon, & by sweating fit in the morning. In this conjunct of sympt have common attend of Phthisis even after has made alarm progr. And may at least venture to assert that Phthis often occurs where less distinct marked. Viewing the affect in this light no partic mentiond in the case, which can, I think, be consid as singul. At same time some occurr. not to be met with in every inst of Phth. As such may ment. deliv of dead child about a month after comm of affect. Here however much to be doubted whethr this in any degree conn. with disease From period at which happend, cannot suppose that oper. as cause induci the affect. And although not impossib that abort as well as death of child, may have been conseq of viol agitat from coughing, yet this at least but a rare occurr. Often inst of patients subj to Phthis during pregn state, yet carry child to full time. And indeed remarked that during course of pregn sympt app. alev. Or at least very consid encr. [allevd] Upon whole then look on this circ as having been unconn with disease. And from any thing we can learn does not seem to have had any matter effect on progr. For has at least subsisted several months since that time And in hist. of case are not informed at least, of any matter alter which then occurred. But from all circum of case when patient came under our care had very unfav opin Am inclind to suppose, dissert has proceeded from her being unable to attend us. And if attend had even been regul contin entert no great hopes of being of much service to her. In this case however, was intent to have made trial of G. Myrrh. An article which will find highly extolled by Dr Simmons in his treatise on consumpt. And of which, from my own exper, in cert. cases at least, am disp to form fav opin. But as hear no opport. of trial need add nothing farther on the subject.
