    (1785)

    No23. Decr 18 1784

    Rachael Drummond at 59

Is affected with considerable swelling in her legs and thighs particularly the right. This swelling pits on pressure & is most considerable towards evening the parts returning nearly to their natural size in the morning after she has been in an horizontal posture during the night.

Pulse & heat natural. Respiration free, Urine in small quantity. Belly usually bound. But since Tuesday last she has been subjected to a spontaneous diarrhoea having had about six stools every 24 hours.

This affection first began with a swelling in her face, particularly about her right eye, which she first perceivd some weeks ago. That appearance is now gone, but since that the swelling of her legs has been gradually augmented. She knows no cause to which this complaint can be attributed & has used no medicines
