Mary Gow. at 16 complain of great shortness of breathing which is accompanied with severe cough & pain in the left side of the Thorax situated somewhere in the direction of the Mamma. She is troubled with severe & heavy pain in her head, together with a dimness & shortness of sight. The headach is generally attended with vertigo nausea & inclination to vomit. She is affected likewise at times with great laziness & total inactivity & has a continual desire of sleeping, which is generally preceded by streaching & yawning. Belly regular, Tongue rather white & she complains of excessive thirst. Her menses have not appeard at the last period which is about two weeks ago. Pulse slow & weak. About six months ago the headach vertigo & pain of breast first made their appearance & have since been somewhat encreased in severity. She says that the menstrual discharge has always been scanty. She attributes the stopage of her courses to the sedentary life which she has led & her other complaints are she thinks owing to the menstrual obstruction or scanty evacuation. She has used some pills & been in the habit of smoking tobacco Rx. Pulv. Rad. Rub. Tinct. ℥ p. Pulv. Crem. Tart. ℥i.Mcap coch parv. ter de die. nec non applic vesic intr scap. 27 Symptoms much as before Cont. Pulv. Rad. Rub. u. a. Decr 4. Symptoms much as before & she is still much affectd with the cough & dyspnoea. Cont. Pulv. Rub. u. a. & repetat. Vesic intr scap. 11. The blister rose well & her cough is somewhat mitigated. She has taken the Rubia but there is no appearance of the menstrual discharge. Her urine is less high coloured than formerly, but is still discharged in small quantity. Cont. Pulv. Rubiae. U. a. [nec] non Rx Mist Mucil. ℥IV Syr. Acet. ℥ii Tinct. Theb. [gt] [4]XXXM. cap. ℥i. om. m. 18. The cough is considerably relievd but there is no return of the menstrual discharge & her othr symptoms continue much as before. Urine high coloured & she is much affected with looseness. Interm. Pulv. Rubiae Cont Mist. Mucil. urg. tussi. & cap om. m. Pil. Theb. gr X 25 Looseness considerably diminishd since the use of the Pil. Theb. & the mixture has the affect of mitigating her cough Cont. Mist Muc & Pil. u. a Janr 1. Has continued the mixture & Pil. Theb. as directed, but the cough is still very severe & she has in general two or three loose stools every day.
