    No9. Novr 12. 1784

    Janet Davidson at 10 of a sallow complexion & leucophlegmatic appearance, but at times subjected to flushing complains of pain in the stomach & intestines which is accompanied with gripes & frequent loose stools. The region of the stomach & abdomen are at times much swoln. There is always present in the intestines a great deal of wind, which generally makes a rumbling noise & particularly when she goes to stool. At that time a great deal of wind is discharged. She is troubled also with pain of her head & eyes. The affection of the latter consists in a great difficulty of opening & shutting them.

    She has been lately in the habit of almost continually picking her nose. Appetite very ravenous but she eats but little at a time. In the morning she is always troubled with excessive thirst & hunger & has discharged some worms.

    Pulse slower than natural. She was attackd with the present complaint about 7 months ago

    Febrile symptoms first appeard & after that a discharge of six or seven worms. No cause is assignd for this complaint & she has used no medicines.

    Cap. om. m. & vesp. Pulv. Sem Santon Ji nec non Rx. Tinct. Jallap. ℥ iii

    Syr. Simp. ℥I. M cap ℥p ℥ die veneris & repet. om. bihor. donee superv. catharsis.

    20 Took the powder as directed & the purgative operated well

    But no worms have been observed to be discharged. Her gripes & flatulence continue much as before.

    Tinct. Aromat. ℥i

    M cap ℥p. bis indies.

    27 Symptoms much as before though she is rather less affected with the gripes & wind in her stomach. Belly loose

    Decr 4th Is less affected with the pain in her stomach & bowels.

    But has still several loose stools every day.

    11 Has taken the mixture as directed & for several days past her looseness was much diminishd. But it has again returned in nearly the same state as before.
