Robert Moulray
1784
No6th Novr 6. 1784
Robt Moulray at 26 Is troubled with frequent & disagreeable cough which is at times accompanied with headach vertigo & borborigmi. The cough often arises to such a height as to produce severe vomiting. In general however there is a tendency to vomiting & he says he can keep nothing on his stomach for any length of time. During the nights he is affected with profuse sweats & these are generally preceded by a cold stage succeeded by considerable heat. He complains of a severe pain at the pit of his stomach, resembling much a pressure on the integuments, which seems to push them upwards. By the above complaint he is much depressd in his spirits & he says he finds his strength greatly reduced. Appetite much impaird & when he does take food the wind & cough together generally contribute to expell it. Pulse about 88. Tongue white & he complains of great thirst. He scarcely passes a pint of urine in the course of 24 hours. Belly bound. About ten weeks ago the present complaint commenced. The first symptoms that appeared were a great heaviness & soreness in the throat, & these were in a short time succeeded, by the cough, pain of the stomach & severe gripes in the intestines. He can assign no particular cause for this affection with any certainty, but is inclind to think it was owing in some degree to hardships he underwent in America; as he was there frequently much exposed to the inclemencies of the weather. He has used no medicines but a vomit & venesection. Novr 5 Rx. Pulv. Fol. Cicut ℥ i Pulv. Rad Glycyr ℥IMcap coch parv. bis indies. Novr 13.
