Disease of this pat. consist alm entirely in two sympt. And these intim, perhaps me even add in some degree insep connectd with each other. viz Sickness & Vomiting. These indeed not always prop to each other And often very great degree of sickness where no vomiting. But to be doubted if vomiting ever occurs without some degree of sickness. And prob. that is in every inst rather effect of pecul sensat, than of direct stim. But whether univ true or not yet little doubt that here these sympt connected as cause & effect. And to vomiting may I think justly attrib, weakness, heaviness, bound state of belly, & other partic which though not to distress, yet to some degree take place with pr. patnt To look therefore for name of diseas in sympt. first mentiond. And may obs. that with sever. nosol. & pract writers, Vomitus even by itself supp. to constit gen of diseas. Nay in some inst even termin fatally. Partic when puts on that app. which has been stiled [Emetartroph]. Vomiting however much more freq. conn. with other sympt of Dyspep. And even when occurs merely by itself yet perhaps most prop. consid as pecul modif of that disease Especially when takes place without febrile sympt. & without any evid of local affect of stom. From these consid then viewd disease of pres patient as such an example of dyspep. And although distress yet had no reason to imag, that would [prove] either obstin or dang. This the rather imagind, from suddeness of attack. From origin without any obv. cause. But above all from shortness of duration. On these gener. grounds was led to inferr, that in short time might entirely cease And that too prob. even without aid of med. While still farther ground to hope that by prop. admin of these, recov. might be sooner obt. Here however as cause of affect obscure could form less cert. conj with regard to morb. condit to be obviated. But from being so immed affect of taking food was led to conject that very much conn. at least with pecul morb. irritat. of stomach. And that might be success. comb. by prop. tonic. Was on this idea that had here recourse as an astring & stom, to use of Rhub. And to this the rather led from affect which has as cathart. For here bound state of belly naturally indic use of some gentle laxa But at same time from any thing like cathar. had reason to expect an affect rather prejud than otherwise. Hence Rub. empl only in small doses. And in place of using it by itself here exhib in conj with too other artic Magn & Ginger. To the formr had recourse on presumpt. that there might exist some acidit in stom. For though no ment made of it in case, yet in suchcaseinst but seld. that does not in some degr take place. Latter again ginger intended as a warm stim to stom. And from influ of such well known that effects of morb. irritab often immed counteracted Accord in my own pract not unfreq comb it with Rhub. & Mag. And from these whether with or without zinzib have often in cases app. simil at least seen great benef obt. And in pres case reason to believ that followed by such conseq. For soon after use begun [vom] consid allev. And had also affect of gently opening belly. Am therfore hopeful that by contin, disease may soon be removed. Or at least that may aid & forward operat of syst itself tending to prod that affect. Have now stated opin of all cases introd into our Regist. Shall concl. pres lect. with a few remarks on some of those pat. dismissd from attend since formerly spoke of cases. From Sequel of case of M McFarlane app. that by means of Fern powder obt. radic cure of Taenia & entire removal of that animal from intest canal In case of David Shiels, lab undr sympt of Lithias renalis had occas to empl no other med than Cream of Tart & Bals. Anod. And under these affect was for time at least success. termin
