    No18th July 3d 1784.

    Margt Brown at 15 Has a great pain at her thorax & abdomen [which] last is much distended. She is troubled also with great vertigo & headach. The headach is most severe in the morning a little before she rises from bed, the vertigo however continues with her through the day & she says she finds it much aggravated when she attemps either to stoop or ascend to any height. Appetite bad belly very costive which has always been the case & she says she has not had a stool for these three days past

    Pulse 120. Menses have not yet appeard. The above symptoms first commenced about 14 months ago at which time she derived very considerable benefite from medicines prescribd for her at the Dispensary. But about half a year ago the same symptoms attackd her a second time, & have continued since daily to encrease.

    No cause is assigned for the recurrence of her complaints, or for the first attack. She has taken no medicines for the second attack.

    Rx Pulv Fol. Sennae

    Flor Chamemel. Aa ℥ ii

    pro. Enem. & sumat om. m & vesp. Pil. Foetid cum Aloe grV

    10 The injection operated well & she has in general a stool every day from the pills. Her symptoms are somewhat easier but the swelling of her belly still continues.

    Cont. Pil. Foetid cum Aloe.

    17 The pills have had little effect moving her belly, which is again rather bound. Her pain continues easier, but the swelling of her belly is nothing diminishd.
