    No34 Febr 27. 1784

    Duncan McKay at 30 is often seized with severe fits of coughing & after every fit he generally expectorates a yellowish matter. He has also constant tightness & soreness of his breast.

    The fits of coughing are most violent when he lies down. He then begins to sweat very profusely & this continues universal through the greatest part of the night. But at length it becomes cold & clammy. He complains also of sickness at times attended with vomiting. Appetite bad, belly natural, Pulse 120 & small.

    28 Cap. bis in 7[ma] Pulv. Ipecac Ji pro. Emet. nec non Rx Pulv. Fol. Cicut. ℥I Pulv. Crem. Tart. ℥i. M cap. coch ter de die.

    March 6. Has taken his powders regularly without any uneasiness. The vomit operated well. He thinks his cough & breathing somewhat easier but he is still affected with the sense of tightness in his breast & at times with shivering fits succeeded by profuse sweating. Belly natural

    Pulse 120 & small. Appetite impaird.

    Cont. Pulv. [Cicut] cum Cr. Tart u. a.

    13. Cough rather more severe other symptoms much as formerly.

    Cont. Pulv. Cicut. u. a. & Ap vesic inter soap.

    20 Cough still continues very severe although there has been a free discharge from the blister which is still kept open. His night sweats are somewhat diminishd

    Cont. Fontic & Pulv. Cicut. u. a. nec non sumat om. m. Pil. Theb. grV.

    27. The cough has been much easier & he has in general slept well during the night since he began the use of the Pil. Theb.

    But he is still at times much distressd with the difficulty of breathing. He has continued the powders regularly & there is a free discharge from the issue.

    Belly natural. Pulse 96 & he is now free from night sweats.
