1784
No30 Febr 6th 1784
Peter Campbell at 30. Has a constant cough with expectoration which is at times free but at other times more difficult. He was affected with sickness yesterday at 12 o’Clock which continued for ¾ of an hour, without his having any inclination to vomit He then perceivd as he expresses himself an inward & violent trembling in his belly, which ceased in two or three minutes. Immediately after this he had successions & rigours over every other part of his body These suddenly ceased in about fourteen minutes afterwards & were again as suddenly followed by tremblings in the abdomen. The internal & external tremblings generally succeed each other three times in about three quarters of an hour. They are followed by a hot fit which after two hours terminates in a gentle sweat. Appetite bad, belly bound, Pulse natural. He has been unwell for these six weeks past & thinks the complaint was first contracted by exposing himself to cold when sweating. He was confined to his bed for the first forth night. After which the ague began & has continued to recurr every day since but at uncertain intervals. The cough has been present from the first & it is most distressing when he has the internal affection. At this time he has an inflation of his belly especially after taking a little food, & this is often terminated by a discharge of wind. 7 Cap bis in 7mana Pulv. Ipecac Ji. nec non sumat om m & vesp. He is still affected with the shivering fits formerly describd, which however now only return once in two days & he is still much distressd with the wind in his stomach if he sit at rest even for the space of a few hours.
