Jean Jackson
1783
No17 Decr 12th 1783
Jean Jackson at 12, has a continuous scaly eruption which covers the upper surface of her head very completely. The scabs are of a white colour & are divided by clefts into small [portions]. They seldom discharge any fluid & when this happens it is a thin ichor. She has a swelling about the size of an almond behind her ears each of which seems to be divided into lesser tumours. These symptoms are of more than three years duration. Her mother thinks that the eruption & swelling appeard about the same time. The eruption began on the crown of the head in the form of a single scab which was occasiond by a stroke she receivd against the latch of a door. And the little ulcer was afterwards prevented from healing by combing her head & otherwise irritating it. Till lately the eruption was much less considerable, & her mother observes that it [spread] very fast after applying burnt butter to the head by the advice of some officious neighbours. In other respects she is in good health. 13. App. cataplas. e micapanis part. affectae capillitic nec non Rx Ungt Citrin ℥ i Axung.
