    No13 Novr 28. 1783

    Eliz. Reid at 23 of a sanguine temperament complains of a difficulty of breathing & of cough

    These symptoms are much aggravated towards five o’Clock in the morning & are attended with wheezing & danger of suffocation which obliges her to sit upright in bed. The disease remits in about an hour, she has constant vertigo & pain in her head, which come on with the other symptoms.

    Belly & Menses regular.

    Her disease first commenced about 18 years ago, & she imputes it to a severe cold she caught by washing in a frosty day.

    She was then in Aberdeen & was relievd by the application of a blister. From that time she was perfectly easy till within these eight days, when the symptoms became more severe, without any manifest cause. Has used no medicines.

    29. Ap. vesic inter scap. nec non Rx. Pulv. Crem. Tart. H. Sulph. aa ℥i M cap. coch. parv. bis indies

    Decr 5 There has been a free discharge from the blister & her breathing is much relievd.

    Cont. Pulv. Crem Tart. sed cap. dos. vespert. solummodo.

    Decr 13. Her breathing continues much relievd & she has had no returns of severe attacks of it since the application of the blister.

    Dismissd cured.
