    No 5th Octr 30th 1783.

    John Chisholm at 12 of a ruddy complexion & smooth skin has on the back & towards the lower part of the right thigh, a large tumour which feels rather hot & is very painful on pressure

    He has another of the same kind a little higher up on the fore part of the same thigh. The parotid gland on the left cheek is similarly affected & on the under part of the right arm. There is another tumour which broke [about] four weeks ago & is at present running.

    Pulse natural, appetite good, is thirsty, tongue white, belly regular.

    This affection commenced in spring last, & the tumour on the top of the thigh first appeard at that time. He has been a good deal exposed to cold & moisture

    He has used no medicines.

    cap. coch parv. om. m. & vesp.

    Has taken his medicines regularly without any obvious operation

    The tumour on the right thigh has since the last report discharged some very viscid white matter.

    Pulse, Appetite & Belly natural

    Cont. Pulv. Cort. Peruv cum Cicuta & hab. Ungt Saturn ℥i. guo curetur ulcus.

    Novr 15. Has taken his powder regularly without any obvious inconvenience. Since last report the tumour on his cheek has discharged a considerable quantity of purulent matter. Those on other parts of his body remain much in the same state as before.

    Belly natural, appetite impaird & he sleep ill during the night.
