    John Downie

    (1783)

    Jo. Downie. No19.

Concerning case of this patient not altog. without doubts.

At same time most prob. sup. that those pains which are prin part of his affect depend on inordin action of alim canal.

And that this prin excited by flatul.

Most immed relief therefore seemd to depend, on free disch. of it.

And was with this intent, that had recourse to Pil. Foetid cum Aloe.

Which while open the belly in conseq of latter artic, have from former a very consid tend to immed expuls of wind.

But though these might afford consid relief yet radic cure to be lookd for, from strength alim canal.

And was with this intent that empl. mixt of Inf. Amar with Pepper mint water.

While pills howevr had effect of keeping belly gently open, this seemed to have but little influ.

And had some reason to susp. that dimin tone somwhat at least supported by acid in stom.

This therefore led me at last report to conj with Pulv. Foetid use of Pulv. Cretac as an absorb.

And From these hope that patient may be much relievd.

And that by subj use of Peruv. Bark hope that affection may be completely over come.
