(1783)
Tibby Green July 2d.
This patient though applied for assist can hardly be said to have attended at Dispen. For after receiv med prescribd for her saw nothing farther of her. And as accid neglected to take down place of abode have not been able to learn event of case or effect of med. What could be offered therfore resp these would be entirely on footing of conject. Hence then shall offer only very few observat on case. With regard to disease had little doubt in consid it as an example of Interm fever. Had a daily period attack of coldness & shiv succeeded by heat and sweating Here therefore disease distinct markd of quotid type. And in hist of her affect no circum ment. which in my opin can be consid as singul. While disease in all prob. derivd origin from comm cause giving such fever. Resid viz in Marshy situat. Had indeed we are told enjoyd indiff from period of Influ. last year. But this probab. no farther connex with disease than as rend. her more liab to attack. From state of compl. therfore as well as nature of disease had fav hopes of speedy recov For few compl. certainly no modif of fever more undr power than intermitt. Hoped therfore that in short time should have been able to dismiss her free from affect. And with this view had recour to what may be calld comm mode of cure. Premis. an Emet prin with view of evac stom had recourse to the Peruv. Bark. And this directed to be thrown in, by doses to extent of dram every hour till an ounce taken. Of diff. modes of exhib bark & of pecul. advant of each a great deal has been said. Superior of partic modes however has often been inferrd more from theory than observat. And after trial of diff ones have found none answer better than those here directed. By such grad exhib have best chance of its sitting on stomach without inconv. And at same time of obt. full effect of limited quant of Bark as acting on syst. Here then hoped that by use of ounce prescr. cure might be accompl. And I think not improb. that this has been case Reason to believe that dessert has rather proceeded from having no farther occas for assist than from any other cause. But at same time as have heard nothing from pat. can only conject. And therfore unnecss to say any thing farther respct case.
