    No12th May 29. 1783

    Richard Tookey. at 37. has a considerable failure in the power of voluntary motion in the left arm, & leg with a sense of heaviness in the affected parts & some trembling especially when he is cold but no loss of feeling. He generally passes blood by stool at intervals of a week or a forthnight.

    App. good. Thirst & Sleep natural. P. about 72 in both arms but in the affected arm, but in the affectd arm weaker than in the right. Tongue & belly natural. He has frequently a severe cramp in the affected leg. This complaint has been slowly advancing upon him for these three years & was at first attended with pains in the great joints which are now entirely gone. He has the melancholic temperament & had the piles appearing in large excressences about the anus 10 months ago but without any relief from that circumstance, to his paralytic symptoms. He was never before that period attackd with Haemorrhois. He dates the origin of his complaints from working through a very severe winter in a very cold shop. He never took any medicines nor has he used any external application but he has lately been electrified at the Dispensary with very obvious advantage. Elic Scintit Elect. e [cateri] [Muto]

    June 7th Has been seldom electrified since the last report & thinks that the affection in his arm is rather augmented.

    21. Has not been electrified for this week past owing to the badness of the weather & he thinks that the shaking of his hands is rather encreased. He has continued the pills regularly without any obvious operation.
