    No5 ad. May. 17. 1783.

    Mary Lamb at 16. complains of hard cough with scanty expectoration of a tough yellowish matter of no particular taste or smell. Much dyspnoea at times especially on going up hill & a slight pain at the bottom of the sternum. These complaints frequently disturb her sleep in the night, during which she has sometimes very profuse sweats. She sometimes also complains of slight chillness.

    Appetite & Thirst natural. P. near 100. Belly rather costive. The catamenia have appeard only three or four times & that at intervals of six or seven weeks. They are preceded by slight headach & stomach complaints. Her cough & other pectoral symptoms are of about six weeks duration & she can attribute them to no particular cause. Her family have not been subject to Phthisis & she enjoyd very good health before her present symptoms commenced. She has taken no medicines.

    24. The vomit operated well & she has taken the mixture without any inconvenience. Her cough is rather easier & her other complaints are somewhat alleviated. But it is now seven weeks since there was any appearance of the menstrual discharge.

    31. Has continued the mixture regularly & has in general had two stools every day from the pills. Her cough & dyspnoea are much easier, but she is still affected with pain at stomach & there is no appearance of the menstrual discharge.
