    Betty Smart

    1783

    Betty Smart. Janr 18 1783

Anoth patient dismissd from attend since had last occas to ment. case Betty Smart.

When treat. of her affect also obs. that should perhaps here afterwards take opport of saying something farther with resp. to it.

Formerly observd that consid Amm to be primary & origin disease

And lookd upon this as foundat & support both of Hyster & Haemoptys.

Since last spoke of this patient case no circum has occurd to alter sentim with respect to it.

And indeed have had no opport of having recourse to any of those practices which then suggested.

Had this been the case would probably have been inclind to [illegible] to them virtues to which in no degree entit.

For as you will observe by last report what may be called natural cure has taken place.

Or at least free return of menst. disch has, suspend, perhaps even compl. removed all her sympt.

This event cannot I think be attrib. to any med which was using.

For at time when disch returned was empl. only a mixt with Tinct Fulig & Peppn. Water.

This as formerly obs. intended prin for counteract hyster sympt

Partic severe palpit to which subj.

If indeed as was intended Rubia had been employd which intended soon as thought danger of Haemop over might have been deceived in effects

But to the Tinct. Fulig could attrib nothing.

Although however do not consider cure as proceeding from med empl. yet cannot say that was either unexp or not foretold.

For you will may remb. that when speak of this case formerly obs, that menst disch even in most unfav. circum. Menst. disch will often spon. return when entirely at loss from what cause proceeds

And was therefore not altogeth without expect. that in this manner complete removal of all sympt might suddenly take place.

This predic if acct of patient to be credited the event has now conf.

And if case does not demonstr power of any partic Emmen. at least furnish example of spont cure of Ammenorrh.
