In case of this patient nothing singul or uncommon. Selected as subj of Col. Cas. cheifly with view to pract. That might have opport of anoth trial of Uv Ursiwith view to practin Chron. Catarrh. For here no doubt in consid this prin part of affect. And when patient applied for our assist. most urgent part. Here pres of this disease suffic charact. by cough dysp. & viscid expect. For with these sympt. here no circ which can be consid as giving least susp. of Phthis. Pulmon. These indeed not only compl. with which patient affected. Besides this much distressd also with borborygm & acid eruct. These stomach compl. however consid as total unconnected with the other Of this should have very little doubt in most cases where such comb. takes place But although ground for hesit in [some] here all doubt removed from diff of contin For to stomach compl had been subj for sever years. While catarh affect but of recent date Or at least though subj to it in form winters & even pat here on that acct had often entire remiss for many [mon] togeth. Diff. of contin then, & of course, alone suffic to shew that accid combin. But besides these still anoth circum distress to patient. Affect viz of head occur under form of vertigo. This however can have no hesit in consid as merely sympt of stomac For besides that such an occur very common hereverydemonst by evid connex. Well known that from affect of stom headach often proceeds. Here then when both pres togeth always ground for susp. But here farther remarkd that headach obs to supervene on aggrav of stom compl. And that on mitig of these again termin. This then opin as to affect of patien when applied for assist here. And while viewd catarrh affect & stomach compl. whether most prop disting by title of dysp. or flatul as being unconnected, so also had diff opin as to termin. Though catarh affect at that time most severe yet incln. to think that would be least obstin. Have already indeed had occas to observe that few affect more diff to overcome than chron catarh. Partic in this country & during winter season. In so much that with many [ceases] only from more serious compl. And hence do not wish entirely to want it. With pres. patient howver not yet of that obstin nat. For although had in formr winter been subj to it, yet had not come length of being const. On pres. occas had contin only for few weeks. And then took its rise from accid expos. to cold. Reason therefore to hope than even without interpos of art might not be of very long contin. But that spont. termin in recov. might occur as often happ. when catarh does not degen into chron state. This farthr hoped might be [assisted] by artif means. And if neither suffic to prod speedy termin yet hoped that might thus allev affect. Opin therefore as to [termin] of this part of compl. fav. From other equally little reason to appreh danger. For in but few inst at least that dysp. even to highest degree prove fata And when does so is not without many other sympt than here occur. Partic severe & incap. vomiting. To this however in pres case no disp And although belly rather bound, yet not to that degree which in dysp. prod of inconven. Here however affect had already contin without any perf. interrupt for consid length of time. And well known that when stom compl of such standing very liab to be renewed by slight causes. And that in gener. only compleat erad by change in mode of life. This however with one of rank of our pat. and at period at which had arrived not to be expected. Hence therefore with regard to this part of affect lookd only for temp mitig. And that the rather as had [formerly] occas to treat patient for stom compl. Then found that besides other ail had to comb. also deject of spt & tend to complain. A state of mind often connected with stom compl. Andwheneven of itself, capab. both of aggrav & ren. them. To this part of progn indeed state in which have already dism patient may seem to be some obj. But although then free from this as well as other parts of compl. do next expect that will be perman And the rather dismissd patient as [claimd] to be obj of pract for that affect which had prin in [sumr] Was glad therfore to take opport of so good remiss. But how far this to be attrib to pract here used next to be consid Have formerly had occas to state sentim resp Uv Ursi in cases of chron catarh. And have already ment. that cheif intent in select pres case was with view to trial of it. Have already treated of two cases in which empl. during pres. course. In first of these affect had soon a fatal termin. So that thus deprived of opport of making that trial which intended. In latter case patient left us with compl. consid allev. But some doubt how far this to be ascribd to Uv Ursi. Whether however any effect in this way or not, had every reason to concl. that in both cases prod of no bad affect. This therefore some inducement at least to future trials. Accord. orderd Uv Ursi here to [ext] of ℥p. bis indies But besides this prescr. also anoth artic. This however intended with view to affect of alim canal which have already obs. consid as altog uncon with pector compl. That artic was the Pil. Foetid cum aloe These pills consist of equal parts of aloes, assafoetid & soap. And in many inst where flatul. comb. with bound state of belly have often found them remark useful. From comb antispas. with [purga] power at once serve to facil. disch of flatul & to expell [faeces]. In obt. these effects in pres case were not disapp. For from these pills taken to extent of gr V at bed time found effect of keeping belly gent. open. And this also attended with allev of borborigm & stom compl. While this fav change on these sympt simil change also oncoughpect. compl. For at next report found cough much easier & expect. dim This change for better had occured from comm of use of powders. Hence then probab. that proceeded from that cause. At same time to be obs. that here catarrh had been of no long contin. And may have been prin conseq of spont. decline. Or may have proceeded from allev of stom compl or from open belly. But whether this realy the case or not patient as being no longer in situat which required assist was dismissd. Yet no less probab. that was entirely effect of Uv Ursi. These then suffic reasons to induce to contin in same course. And after contin for anoth week found both pect. & stom compl. cont still easier. Still however compl of headach. But consid this as merely symptom of affect of alim canal hoped that by persist in same course might be overcom Accord directed cont for anoth week And at end of this period entirely free both from stom compl & headach with very little remains of cough. In this situat reckond farther cont of pills unnecss. And therfore directed that should go on with Uv. Ursi alone. After contin for anoth week cough also had now entirely left her. And must own cannot help being of opin that [illegible] at least in prod effect >+
