    Agnes Reid

    (1780)

    Agnes Reid.

Has not attended since treat begun

    Thus hardly obj of pract.

Hence alm unnecess to say anything.

Espec. as not improb. that during course occas to treat other pat subj to same disease

May however remark that while affect very common often also very obstin.

For here little doubt in asserting that disease Leucorrh or Fluor Albus.

Between this indeed & Gonnor. distinct often extrem diffic.

Partic when occurs with young wom & of suspic charact.

Here however patient a married woman

And from single circum of husb. remaining free from it while she subj to it for sever months suff. ground for diagnos.

Besides this markd also by absen of sympt. the common attend of Gonnor. as ardor urinae &e.

And by pres of those seld app in Gonnor but common in Leucorr.

Such for ex as pain & weakness of back & want of appetite.

But still more regul encrease of disch at stated periods.

For accord to hist of case much greater immed after menst disch than at other times.

This circum besides disting. Leuc from Gonnor. points out also anoth partic.

That mucous disch viz more from uterine vessels than those of Vagin.

For from both sources disch may I appreh arise.

And from same circum besides this anoth pecul also to be expl. which sometimes takes place in the [disea]

viz Contin of affect in some cases during pregn. while in others then ceases.

But without entering into these, may obs. that from circum ment. suffic evid that this patients disease Leuco

And although affect in gener. obstin yet here circum by no means unfav.

Had contin only for short space of time

Happened in habit not exhaus. [debil] or [praedisp] to affect.

And occurrd at late period of life when from menst. flux [disapn.] reason to hope that natur cure of this affect also.

On these grounds then hoped that by aid of prop med might be able if not entirely to remove at least to allev this patients compl.

For this however from desert of patient opport was not afforded us

With regard to pract may only observe that remedy which meant to have first tried in this case [Lem] [Wa]

An artic which in my own pract have of late freq empl in this affec

    And I think with advant.

Although must at same time allow, that in one case in partic, reason to appreh. that prod of great distress to patient, from suddenly check disch.

From this therefore always necess to begin use in caut manner.

And accord here ordered only to extent of gill in day.

Since first prescr. however, have seen nothing more of patient.

And thus no opport of learning any thing of effects.

Observ on these then, as well as conject as to mode of operat. more prop ment. under some other [case] if again occas to employ it in this disease during pres course.
