Robert Watt
(1780-1781)
Of case of Robt Watt, who still contin under care form offered sentim at consid length.
Affect then exhib numer compl. of sympt. And was at loss to say whether these all to be consid as origin from one morb affect or complic of diseases. This partic case with regard to dyspep affections & headach. Yet upon whole inclind to think that latter depend on former. Farther treatm of this case howevr in place of remov. has encreased doubt And now rather inclind to consid the two compl. ment.ratheras sep affect than as connected. Still however so far retain formr opin as to look both upon one & other, as exhib examp of affect of singul nature. Formerly obs. that expect of cure in this case by no means sang. And that should not be surpr. if patient left us in no better situat than when came under care. Of this now I think very great prospect. And all trials made to very little purpose. Upon whole however must think as well as patient himself, that consid allev of stom compl, which has taken place since came under care, the affect of med empl. And partic of vegetab bitters & of aloet purgativ. While latter effect of obviating costiv, former seems to have had influ as restr inord action of stom. And while this in some meas arose from Tinct Absinth seemd to be still more effect of Colombo With this allev however no abatm of headach. And meas of late tried for this purp seem to have had no influ. Indeed since began Ext of Hyosciam, rather aggrav as otherwise. This however am disp to consid rather as an accid circum than affect of med. And unless still app to havesome effectrather bad conseq as otherwise shall wish to cont it for some time longr. If obliged to desert it however have next thoughts as formerly suggested of trial of Laud. And to prev bad effects which in gener has with dysp patients to conj it with the Ag. Pip. Jamaican which formerly spoke of.
