Affect entirely confined to one arm And there although sympt few yet such as with suff. cert. mark of nature of affect. Though here there does not occurr loss of motion, yet so far dimin with any local affect, as to leave no doubt that compl of paralt. kind. And from remarkab. dimin of heat must even concl, that far from being a slight affect. Notwith this circum however there does not occurr a corresp dimin of sensib. This however not uncommon even in very severe inst. For in some inst total loss of motion while sensib entire. And in other total loss of sense while sensib contin. Yet always to be consid as more obstin cases where these sympt conj than where separ. In pres case other circum also, somewhat in fav of patient. Affect begining without any obv. cause, encreased by an accid. That however of such nature, that no reason to appreh an [incurab] disease. When came under our care, had not been of long contin. And although some med tried, yet yet from all that could learn, sever of most active to which recourse had, never been had. From these circum then, was by no means without hopes of recov. And these hopes, at least nothing dimin from manif progress to recov. which case has had since came under care Here imagined that success most readily to be lookd for, from empl. of stimul. And as one of most powerful with which am in such cases acquainted, had recourse to Electricity. This employd under form of electr sparks drawn from affectd arm. By this means a powerful stimul applied, to extrem of diseased nerves. And thus may expect benef, not only from immed action on these, but from impress in as far as are capab. of conv. it, being commun to origin. By this means nervous energy in there comes to be encreased. Into full acct of operat howevr cannot here prop to enter. And must indeed admit that with regard to mode of action still in many respects very great doubts But whatever prinofon which operates, seems in pres case, to have had remarkably good affect. For from commen of use felt [illegible] benef. In short time, could move arm with much greater facility And what to be consid as no less fav circum, this accomp with recov of natural heat. Here indeed must be observd, that sometimes very fav. appear from electr. where yet in end disapp. Cannot therefore with absolute conf promise cure. And besides this to be obs, that after going cert. length in some inst, can be made to go no farther. Yet at least most probab, that in pres inst by prop contin may obt complete & perman cure
