    Margret Robertson.

    An example Affect. consists of set of sympt by no means uncommon with females.

    And partic at period of life at which has now arrived.

    Time viz at which menses usually fail.

    For when consid that has arrived at 40th year would look on want of menses for four months rather as conseq. of natural revol of syst than a morbid affect.

    Sympt of which here compl. sighing, palpit, & dyspnoea not what can here consid as constit prop Hyster.

    For this affect nosol. have very gener. defind by Hyster fits.

    In Hyster however consid as a [diseas] have in pract. course endeav to estab a distinct, which consid as think of consid import.

    That is diff states in which dis appears of Hyster fits, & Hyst. symp.

    While the affect in gener. much [mre] freq with females than males, so these states if not pecul to cert periods of life, are then at least most common.

    While hyster fits most freq at app of menses, hyster sympt most common and distress. at time when fail.

    And this took to be nature of affect to which pres patient was subjected.

    Till therfore period of life fairly past can hardly look for compl. recov.

    At same time expected might be obviated & that might even perh. obt. tempor remiss.

    As means of obt. relief nothing more powerful than that impress made by foetid gums.

    And with view of obt. this, [directed] for patient the use of Tinct. Foetid.

    Of this, the active basis is Assafoetid alone.

    Assafoetid This of all the foetid Gums unquest. the most powerful.

    And state in which here employd one of most active forms.

    For here brought to state of solut by menst from which all active parts completely susp.

    Menst also very powerfully coop. with the med itself.

    For Spt. Sal. Ammon [venos] as is calld here employd.

    This however from proport of volat alkal. which cont. in nature so active, that must be given in but small doses.

    On this acct. here diluted with Pepper. mint water.

    An artic, which from essent oil it cont. often by itself in such cases of consid service.

    Here added, some proport of sugar that with intent both of prom union & of covering taste.

    This med taken by patient, without any inconven.

    And first affects even to afford some consid relief to patient symptoms.

    During contin under our care, for about space of month persistd in use

    And at last report so far free from affect, that thought farther attend unnecss.

    Was therefore dismissed.
