Case in many respects simil to that of Wm Erskine. After what said therefore of form little to be added of pres. Disease consists also in severe pain affect diff parts of body. And can entert no other suppos but that either of Rheum or Gouty kind Here however little doubt that of former kind. That Rheum may be inferrd from age of patient 24. From sex – a female. From situat in life by which excluded from all luxury. From places attackd, larger joints From obv cause by which induced actin viz of cold & fatigue. And lastly from exist with severity in many diff joints at same time. In short whatever ground for doubt in some cases here no room for ambig. And while pron case Rheum must also consid it as exampl of affect in simple & uncom state In last lect pointed out at some length diff stages of Rheum And shall soon again have oca to make some observ on them in pract course. Here then many only observe that consid this patient as well as Erskine as in stage of irritab. That inflam stage past was led to inferr from state of pulse & want of other febrile sympt. That had not reachd atonic concludd from pains being aggrav on warmth of bed. From this state of compl then as well as from gener. nature of disease had expectat of fav termin. And some ground at least for presum that has already taken place If this really the case may with prop attrib a good deal to artic employd. Here as in former case had recourse also to Siber. remedy the Rhod. Chrysn To observat so lately offered on it nothing now to be added. As evid however how far [virtues] [extract] both by Spirit & watery menst. leave here for exam a prepar of each kind. These formd of ℥ii of leaves & stalk to lb.i. of menst. And to both menst. evid yields very strong impregnat. Here however for same reason as in formr case had recourse to it in subst. And although empl. in equal dose to what given in case of Erskine yet had not same affect on stomach. Was neither affected with sickness nor vomiting nor did it prod any change on state of disch by belly. But as mentiond in Siber acct had here very soon affect of excit pecul [senst] in parts most paind. And when consider how soon followd exhib of med presumpt that to be acct for from influ as affect stomach. From all trials, [well] ascert. to be a plant of narcot kind. Thus then action of stomach will affect whole nerv. syst. And by this means can readily con. how pecul sensat should come to be referrd to extrem of nerves in diseased condit. With this obv operat in whatever way to be expl. patient sensib also of anoth affect from med. Succeeded to prof sweat partic in joints most paind. And under these operat pains very greatly dimin. That this change for better to be ascribd to med employd if not cert at least highly probab. In this situat then could have no hesit in direct contin And from success in formr case was in hopes that here also might be means of compl cure. Since repet however have seen nothing more of pat in this place. And as have had no opport of seeing her at own habit. cannot with certainty say what has been termin. At same time from state in which was when last visit us reckon it more probab. that [dessert] has proceeded from having no farther occas for assist than from any other cause. Consider this therefore as affording fresh example of effic of Rhod in Rheum in state of irritab. And whatev may be case at other stages am inclind to consid it as well suited to this.
