Sympt enum in case of this patient shew evid, very differ. diseases. Palpit of heart to which had been subj for many years in all probab a nerv. sympt. Pains of diff joints partic in hip joint, & thighs with which had been long affected were manif of Rheum kind. While as little reason to doubt that affect of her breast, of the [subaxil.] glands, & of whole surface of body under form of erupt. were vener. sympt. To two former compl had for long time been subj and did not give her much uneasiness. While at same time little reason to appreh. that would be soon or much aggrav. Was then solely with view to last that was taken under our care. While this affect of recent date could be no reason to doubt that communic by mouth of child to nipple. And from this, pecul in appear in as far as here occurr to be explaind. Here I thought from begining that little reason to doubt that patient would at length get rid of affect. This end however sooner accompl than I expected And with regard to cure of Syphil may observe that although prognos. may very gener. be favour. yet time necess extremely uncertain. And this probab. more from differ in action of mercury in diff syst than from any other cause. Into any observat however on this subj cannot now prop. to enter. May only remark that among diff mercurial prepar. had here recourse to Calomel. This hold to be of interm nature [betw] corros sublim & common mercur. pill. In short time had evid of action as entering system from affect of mouth. And as soon as this was the case sympt manif began to decline. In future treatment was object to keep patient with system chargd with Mercury to same degree. And in order to prev. its being throw off by the mouth or any consid affect of saliv glands had recourse to repeatd doses of a refrig purgat. As such here employd Glaub. Salt And in my own pract at least may obser that have found nothing equally effect in giving check to salivat. Does indeed in some meas disch Merc. from system. But prev. greater disch than otherwise would take place by saliv glands How far same intent more effect [illegible] by applic of a blister cannot from own pract pretend to determ. Yet am told on exper. of others that this really the case. And from theory much disp to the opin. Under course mentiond howevr sympt of patient in no long time completely disapperd. And dismissd freed at least from this part of affection.
