Subj to a set of sympt not strictly constit any partic genus. Consist not only in univ debility an occurr in many diff & even oppos affect. but also in tempor. lesion at least of sevr functions. In sickness evid of affect of stomach In sweats of that of surface. In vertigo & dimness of sight affection of vision. All these howevr well known to be freq. ultim refer. to one gener. cause. That is general affect of nervous system in conseq of pecul impress on sensib extrem. And here great reason to believe that conject of patient respecting cause of this [impress.] well founded. That arises viz from distension by wind in alim canal. For such a suppos. may naturally be deduced from case afforded by disch of wind. And this consider to be at least prin. affect to which our patient subjected. Has indeed some other compl. but little connected with these. Partic pains in ancles knees & [hamst] which probab of Rheum kind. From age of patient & contin of affect cannot expect that will soon be entirely freed either from one or other. But while former most distressing to patien is that to which pract hitherto directed. And was with intent of operating as stimul & antispas. that had here [recourse] to Tinct Fulig. From this expected more free disch of wind & conseq relief of sympt. And although has not hitherto had desired affect yet hope for it from contin. If howevr in this disappointed may substit assafoetid in some other form partic that of Pil. Foetid or Pil. Gums. And may conjoin some other [medicine] with view of prev farther generat of wind as strengthening tone of intest. Ex some of bitter infus or Tinct. From these hope that if patient not cured may at least obt consid relief.
