To disease of this patient as introd into our regist. must own should be much at loss in affix. any name. And had afterwards no opport. of being farther satisf. with regard to it. For after first visit has never given any farther attendance. From acct. however which we receivd would seem that princip part of her affect a stomach compl. And that here cheif distress from viol pain which origin in region of stomach propag. to other parts. Such pains from spasm. strict united with flatul by no means uncommon. Here however would seem that this not [the] case. For neither obvious swelling of stomach during severity of pain nor any other mark of flatul. From transit nature howevr & freq. [recur] cannot suppose that in any degree effect of inflammat. This therefore would naturally lead to suppos. that is purely of spasmod kind. But in this affect. another circum to be mentiond perhaps not less deserv. notice. That is state of menst. evac. Would seem here that patient desir. of connecting affect. with state of menst disch For dates compl. from time of first app of menses. And this evac we are told had first taken place about three years before. Would not however seem that had any depend on a morbid affect. of menses. For informd us that till two months before came under our care these had cont. regul. But that for two preceeding [terms] had been obstructed. When in any affect obt. of menses [occur] always becomes quest of import. whether in any degree connectd with other compl. or not. And where is connected whether to be consid as conseq. or cause. In case before us no manif reason to suspect connex. Affection now occurring not more severe than had been for years before. And shewd no marks of having [been] such exhaust of syst. as could induce ammenorrh. from inanit. But suppos. connex. could by no means view it in light of cause of affect of stomach For these according to act. given us took place much soonr than obst of Menses. Notwith this howevr patient herself seemd to consid this if not as cause at least as chief circum supporting affection And princip anxiety seemd to be to have menst. evac restored. Was however by no means perfectly clear as to prop. of attempt for this [purp]. For while may often exist as morbid affection so may also occurr with heat of system. And during period of pregnancy should always be wanting. And own was not altogth without suspicions that such a cause might here operate. Was even tempted to suspect that other parts of compl. might be fictit. Or at least that might be unfairly repres. And that affect of stomach no other than what are very generally the attend of the pregn. state at early periods. For whiledanger sympt. formobst of menstruat. pretended by those who wish to procure abort. common at same time to connect with it some story for which no foundat. In this state of doubt then was aim to have attended to every circum which could serve to through light on true nature of the affect. And till should be more ascertaind with regard to it, to suspend judgemt regard prognos. & to delay any regul plan of cure. Was therefore rather with intent of [gaining] time than any thing else that ordered for this patient Elix of Aloes. Which howevr hoped might have some effect in allev. pain by keeping belly gently open. But what effect of this first prescript have not been able to learn. For as already observd patient nevr return And thus precluded from all farther inquire to nature of affection or attempt to cure
