    David Christie

    (1776-1777)

    David Christie.

A child with regard to cause of whose comp was I own very doubtful.

Mother howevr seemd to be one of those people disp. to have many ad. & to follow [none]

After first prescrip therfore have seen nothing little farther of her at this place.

And therfore less opport of judging of the childs disease

When came under our care seemingly prin part of compl. a catarrhal affect.

Had subsisted however for one of his age for so long time, & complic. with such sympt. as to give doubt resp. cause.

Prev to any other appear are informd that had disch. a worm.

And from [bound] state of abdom together with picking of nose, presumpt that other still remaind.

Well known howevr that among various other sympt induced by worms cough also to be enum.

And must own here disp to conject that might be ascribd to this cause

At same time such a suppos very far from being certainly estab.

Disease may have been conseq. even of local affect of lungs.

For at such early period that state will sometimes occurr.

Still more probab. that affect of [encreased] secret & accum mucus.

For at such an early age inf. cannot [disch] mucus

And can be no doubt that although cough may have origin from diff cause this some concern in augm the affect.

But whatever nature of this disease app of patient when applied for releif, by no means very favour.

Far from being rare to see patient children cut off by suffocat. from accum mucus.

While at same time presumpt of some obstin. cause support. uneasy sympt.

What however has been fate of this chid have not learnd.

And highly probab. that compl. by no means in same situat as when came under our care.

If be not already recov. probab. that by this time has either already termin fatally or at least consid worse.

When patient came under care was I own somewhat at loss with regard to what meas. ought to follow

Imagind that might reap benef. both from emet & from blister.

But wishd first to try what effect could obtain from emptying bowels.

And at same time to see how far any appear of worms.

Was with these intent that directed he should employ as a purgat Calom. with Rhub

How far had desired affect had not afterwards any opport of learning.

For although mother came to give [acct] on the following Saturday yet too impat to stay till name calld.

In this situat needless to speak of future meas

As probab. that shall now [here] nothing farther of this patient.

And indeed were he to return would now probab. as have already said be in situat requiring diff. treatment from what formerly necessary.
