    Alexander Glasgow

    1790

    No33. March. 8th 1790.

Alexander Glasgow at 32 complains of acute pains, affecting various parts of his body, but particularly severe, in the joints of his ankles, which however do not appear to be swelled or inflamed.

The pain is attended with a stiffness of the ankle joints, by which there motion is rendered difficult. And upon walking, or any similar motion, the pains are augmented.

Pulse 90. Tongue white. Belly regular. Appetite bad.

These pains first attacked his shoulders, about four years ago & he thinks they were the consequence of long continued exposure to cold & wet. After many remissions, during a period of three years & an half, in which they have affected, most of the joints of his body in succession, they have, since December last, been for the most part confined to the joints of the ankles

He took some remedies, at the commencement of his complaint, by which he thought himself somewhat relieved. But of late, he has used no medicines.
