No23. January 5th 1790
Jean McKenzie at 80, the whole surface of the body & the tunica albuginea of the eyes, appears of a deep yellow colour. She complains of much sickness at stomach but it is unattended with vomiting. Her abdomen is swelled & hard to the feel. Pulse 76, appetite much impaired, Belly very bound, & the faeces discharged are of a white colour. Urine very high coloured, & it communicates a yellow tinge to linen immersed in it. These complains have continued for a fortnight, & have gradually increased. She knows no cause to which they can be attributed. Her health has in general been good prior to the present affection & she was never before subjected to similar complaints. She has used no medicines. Cap. Pulv. Ipecac ℈i. pro Emet. nec non sumat. om. n. Pil Aloet gr V January 9 The vomit operated well, but she has taken none of her pills.
