Alexander Kerr
1789
No 20th December 15th. 1789.
Alexander Kerr at 43 a shoemaker of a weak & lax habit of Body, complains of severe cough & pain of his side, attended with copious expectoration of a frothy, whitish matter. He is affected with much dyspnoea, which is increased upon motion, in such a manner as to give a sense of suffocation. He sweats much during the night. Pulse near 80 & weak Tongue white. Belly bound. Appetite & strength much impaired & he sleeps ill in the night. He is often disturbed from his sleep when it does take place by frightful dreams. He was exposed to cold about a year ago; & to this he is inclined to attribute his present symptoms. He has not since been entirely free from his complaints, but he thinks that since the commencement of the colliquative sweats, about six weeks ago, he perceives himself much weaker & more emaciated than before. He has taken syrups & other pectoral remedies from which he found little amendment. About six weeks ago, he had a blister applied to his left side, which relieved the pain & dyspnoea considerably. He has not used any remedies since. Ap. Emplas. [Vesicatoricim] pectori, & postea fiat forticulus ope Ungt Epispastici, nec non Cap. Pulv. G.
