    DEP/DUA/1/47/04 (Normalised version)

    George Gibson

    (1789)

    No17. George Gibson at 38.

In case of this patient another example of Taenia in intestinal canal.

And from appearance of joints may conclude it an instance of Taenia Cucurbitina.

Here although has continued for a year & half, yet hardly product of any other inconvenience than what arises from mere discharge.

Must indeed admit that understanding of this patient seems to be very weak.

And not to be denied that among other symptoms resulting from worms, have been alleged to induce fatuity.

State of mind therefore which here takes place, may in part at least proceed from worms as cause.

But at same time know nothing of condition of this patients intellectual powers prior to attack.

And most probable supposition, that then nearly if not entirely in same state

Here if distinction of species of Taenia well founded, have to combat one of [them] most difficult to remove.

And may probably baffle utmost effort.

In treatment of this case, mean in first place to give fair trial to Madame Nouffers mode of cure.

At least to her specificity as she calls it the powder of Root of Fil. M.

If this fails may make trial of Gamboge or of Tin powder.

And reason to hope that from some of them, may obtain if not radical cure at least discharge of large fragments.
