    John Keith

    1789

    No13. November 24th. 1789.

John Keith at 38 a labourer complains of violent pains along the course of the alimentary canal, attended with temporary swellings apparently the consequence of flatulence. The swellings chiefly appear about the umbilical region. The pains are sometimes attended with eructation, vomiting or a discharge by stool, from which he in general finds relief.

    Pulse natural, Belly loose

    Appetite considerably impaired.

He was first attacked suddenly with these complaints about three weeks ago. They began according to his account with a fit of Colic attended with severe vomiting. From this however he was relieved in two or three days. But the pain recurred with greater violence attended with the looseness upon attempting to return to his work, & they have continued in their present state for about a fortnight past.
