    Elizabeth Gall

    (1789)

    No9. Elizabeth Gall at 24.

This case in several respects analogous to last.

Is also of that doubtful nature which cannot with certainty say whether catarrh or phthisis.

But here also inclined to adopt former & most favourable opinion.

Especially also from state of pulse & regularity of menses.

For here it must be allowed age not in favour of patient.

Is only in 24th year a period at which Phthisis very common.

But at same time not to be denied that then also Catarrh frequently occurs.

Here also as in former case, led in some degree by ambiguity have had recourse to modes of cure equally applicable in Catarrh as in Phthisis.

But wished at same time to vary practice.

Accordingly have here had recourse to an Emetic & to a Blister converted into issue.

From latter is intention to [support] continual discharge for some time.

And former may according to circumstances occasionally repeat.

By these hope, that in no long time affection may take turn for better.

But of both reserve observations, till again speak of case.
