No31 February 10th 1789.
James Shulbread at 59 complains of great pain in making water particularly about the glans penis. His urine is passed with difficulty & does not run in a full stream & he finds relief in the discharge from change of posture. The urine lately discharged is of a mucous appearance but he says that it is sometimes of a deep red colour. He has also some slight pain about the region of the loins. Belly very costive. Pulse 80 & strong. Appetite not impaired. These complaints for which he can assign no cause are of three weeks standing. He has used no remedies. Rx. Mist Mucil. ℥ VI Spt. Nitri dule Tinct. Theb. aa ʒi.Mcap. ℥ p. ter de die & bib. Infus Junip ad libilum 21 Has been sounded & no stone can be felt in the bladder. He now discharges his urine with much less difficulty than before & it has at present nothing of the deep red colour Cont. Med. u. a. 28 Discharges his urine without any inconvenience & it is now perfectly of the natural appearance Let him be dismissed.
