David Phin
1789
No25 January 6th. 1789
David Phin at 23 is at the present affected with severe diarrhoea attended with Tenesmus & gripes His stools are to the number of a dozen in the day & are sometimes of a white colour, but more generally of the natural colour although always thin. He complains of having always a sense of coldness in his feet, & he appears to be much emaciated. Pulse 70 & weak. Appetite impaired. Tongue clean & dry. He is also affected with urgent thirst which however he cannot indulge as he finds that it aggravates the looseness. These complaints first began about eight years ago, & the diarrhoea during that time has been seldom absent for more than a week. After these intermissions it returns with as great severity as before, continuing for some days. He knows no cause for his disease & has used no medicines excepting some Peruvian Bark from which however he derived no benefit. Rx Mist Conf. Japon ℥ VI Tinct.
