    Barbara Dun

    1788

    No21 December 30th 1788.

Barbara Dun at 36 is attacked every second day, about seven o’Clock in the evening, with a cold fit which continues for about an hour. It is then succeeded by a hot stage, & followed by a profuse sweat. She is also at times affected with headache, nausea, & distension of stomach.

Pulse at present 76. Belly regular, she complains of much thirst, particularly during the paroxysms. Catamenia have not appeared these three months. Appetite bad.

These complaints began about three months ago, & she says that on their first appearance, the paroxysms occurred daily. But within these three weeks they have assumed their present form. She attributes her disease, to remaining during the harvest near the marshes in the county Norfolk

She has used no medicines but a vomit on the first attack. From this however she derived no relief.
