Peter Paterson at 25 complains of frequent cough, some dyspnoea & pain of the sternum. He has also much hoarseness & some slight inflammation of the Tonsils attended with difficult & scanty expectoration. Pulse 80 & rather weak. Belly regular. Tongue clean, some thirst. Appetite pretty good. Sleeps ill. These complaints first appeared about four months ago, with the symptoms of the prevailing epidemic at that time & he has never since been free of cough or pain of the sternum. He has used no medicines. Rx. Ol. Olivar. opt. ℥ i. Sal. Tart. gr XV Ag. Font. ℥ IVMcap. ℥ p. ter de die. 13 Cough rather easier since the use of the mixture, but his hoarseness still continues. Cont Mist. Oleos. ut antea. nec non Rx Pulv. Fol. Cicut. grV Pulv. Cort. Peruv ℥ pMcap dos. bis indies 20 Has taken his medicines as directed but [the] cough & hoarseness continue much as before. Cont. Med. u. a. 27. Expectoration more considerable & cough rather more frequent, than before. He sleeps ill & sweats much during the night. Hoarseness somewhat diminished. Pulse 108. Cont. Med. u. a. January 10th Sweatings somewhat diminished Cough & expectoration, much as before Tongue very clean, particularly towards the point. Belly regular. Cont Med. u. a. 17 Cough rather aggravated, & he has been much affected with flying pains through different parts of his body. Pulse 100 Cont. Med & Hab. Bals. Anod ℥ ii illin. p. dol. 24 Pains easier since he [rubbed] with the anodyne Balsam, but his cough & other symptoms continue much as before. Interm. Bals. Anod.
