Janet Baine at 53. complains of frequent cough which is attended with much dyspnoea, & copious expectoration, of a viscid yellow matter which has a saline taste. These complaints are much aggravated from exposure to cold air, but they are neither increased, during the night, nor by a recumbent posture. Pulse, Skin, & Belly natural. These complaints first came on last winter, were alleviated during the summer months, but upon the return of the cold weather, they have recurred with much violence. She knows no particular cause to which she can attribute them, but imagines they may proceed from cold. She has used no medicines. Cap. Mist. Mucil. ℥ I urgente tussi. 22 Expectoration somewhat diminished since she began the mixture. Cough much as before. But the dyspnoea is rather aggravated. Interm Mist Mucil. Cap. Pulv. Ipecc Ji pro Emet nec non sumat. Pulv Crem Tart comp coch. parv. bis indies. 29 The vomit operated well & since that her cough has been somewhat relieved & her expectoration diminished The powder keeps her belly gently open, but has had no effect in inducing diuresis. Cont. Pulv. Crem Tart comp u. a. & cap. om. m. Pulv. Fol. Uv. Ursi ʒp. December 6 Cough less frequent. Expectoration diminished but she still complains of Dyspnoea, particularly in the evening. Pulse Belly & Appetite natural. Cont Pulv. Crem Tart & Pulv. Fol. Uv. Ursi. u. a. 13 The cough & dyspnoea have been very distressing since the last report, which she ascribes to the coldness of the weather. Cont. Med. u. a. 20 Cough very severe attended with much dyspnoea & little expectoration Interm. Pulv. Fol. Uv. Ursi. Cont. Puvl. Crem Tart. u a. & cap. hor. 7ma vesp. Pulv. Ipecac ℈i. pro Emet. 27. The vomit operated well. But her breathing continues much as before & her cough is rather aggravated. Cont. Pulv Crem Tart. & appl. vesic inter scap. January 10th The blister rose well & during the continuance of the discharge, her dyspnoea was much relieved But it is again more severe than before; & her cough is nothing alleviated. Cont. Pulv. Crem Tart. & Rep. Vesic inter scap. & postea fiat fontic ope Ungt. Episp. 24 The blister has been allowed to heal. But her cough & dyspnoea are somewhat easier. Cont. Pulv Crem Tart comp. u. a.
