In this patients case distinctly marked instance of Cynanche. And that too occurring in a patient often before subjected to attacks of same affection. A circumstance with regard to the affection worth remarking & by no means uncommon. Indeed perhaps few diseases to which more evidently a [constituent] [disposition] than Cynanche tonsillaris. For while with one exposure to cold apt to give rise to cough, with another to pains of Rheumatic kind – with third as uniformly will produce Cynanche. And of this habit of body our present patient an example. A circumstance probably not depending on condition of habit in general, but merely on that of fauces. And perhaps to be prevented by diminishing irritability from giving additional vigour when in state of health. But without saying at present anything on this subject may only observe that while disease exists first objective to combat. And particularly to endeavour to obtain termination rather by resolution than by suppuration. With this intention it is that have recourse to volatile Liniment Astringent gargle & refrigerant cathartic. Practice by which no doubt that resolution often obtained & [supporting] [prevention]. But how far will be successful in present case time must determine.
