    Isabel Dunbar

    1788

    No26. January 8th 1788.

Isabel Dunbar at 42. complains of an acute pain at the lower part of the abdomen which extends from thence to her loins & as she expresses it seems to draw the bones together. It often also shoots up to the stomach

She discharges by the anus a great number of small worms, which by her description seem to be of the ascarides kind. They come away in greatest numbers when she is sitting erect. The discharge is accompanied with an uneasy itchy feeling at the anus. She is likewise often affected with severe pain at the fore-part of her head which is in general much aggravated after meals.

Pulse about 86, Body natural Appetite indifferent. Sleeps ill, menses regular.

These complaints first began about a month ago, but were almost well till within these five days when they have returned with greater severity. She knows no cause for their occurrence.
