Alexander Ross. at 31, is seized every day about twelve o’Clock, with a sense of coldness which pervades his whole body. It commonly continues during the whole of the afternoon. He is also affected with a troublesome cough from which he expectorates but little. He is generally awakened by it about one in the morning. The fits of coughing are then most severe & often excite an uneasy sense of pulsation in his head. Pulse about 100 & quick. Belly rather bound. Appetite pretty good, thirst immoderate strength much impaired. These complaints began about five months ago. He ascribes them to hard labour & much exposure to cold. He has used only a few pills with the view of keeping his belly open. But he has not derived any other benefit from them Cap. Pulv. Ipecac ℈i pro Em nec non sumat. [Mist.] Mucil. ℥ p ter de die 22. The Ipecacuanha did not operate by vomiting, but produced several loose stools. He thinks that he expectorates rather more freely. Cont. Mist Mucil. add. sing dos. Vin. Nicot. [gr].
