    Janet McDougall

    1787

    No16. December. 4th. 1787.

Janet McDougall at 38 complains of intense pain in her left side, which generally reaches to the top of her head, on the same side & often remains for some time very acute in her lower jaw, it often extends also to the lower part of her loins.

She complains also of great distension of her stomach which is commonly aggravated after meals attended with nausea & sometimes vomiting, & often with cardialgia. These symptoms she says are much alleviated on the discharge of flatus.

Pulse about 90 & rather low Belly natural much thirst, sleeps ill, appetite impaired, catamenia regular.

These complaints first began about fourteen years ago & have continued more or less severe ever since. She knows no cause to which they can be attributed.

She has used Valerian & various other medicines, without alleviating her pain, but she thinks that the Valerian somewhat eased her stomach.
