Grizel Combe at 40 is affected with an acute & constant pain surrounding her whole head but more particularly severe over both her eyes. She is also much distressed with constant tinnitus aurium, & with dullness of hearing. She complains also of pain in her breast & left side attended with some cough & dyspnoea. Pulse about 80 & of natural strength, Belly costive, some thirst, sleeps ill, Appetite natural, menses regular, Strength impaired. She has been much affected with headache from her infancy, but it has gradually increased in severity within these last four years, & it was particularly aggravated about seven weeks ago, when her present deafness first commenced. She knows no cause to which she can assign either the origin of her complaints or the aggravation of them which has of late taken place. A few weeks ago she had a blister applied to her back which she thinks gave her some temporary relief from the headache, she has employed several other medicines without benefit. Applicet. Emp. Epispast. pone aurem sinist. & postea. f. font. ope Ungt. Epispast. nec non hab. Ol. Camph. ℥ p. 8 The blister rose well & there is still a considerable discharge from the issue. Her head has been somewhat easier, but she still complains much of pain & heaviness over the right eye. Cont. Fontic & Ol. Camph. & Applic. Vesicat. pone aurem Dextram. 15 There is a considerable discharge from both the issues, & her headache is much relieved but her affection of hearing continues nearly as before. Cont. Med. u. a. 22 The issues have been allowed to dry up & her headache has of late been very severe. She thinks her dullness of hearing somewhat diminished. Interm. med & cap Pil. e Camph. gr V ter de die January 5. Headache much relieved since she began the use of her pills but she still complains of tinnitus aurium. Cont. Pil. e Camph. u. a.
