No13. November 24th 1786
John Hossack at 40 by trade a weaver, with black hair & of a healthy appearance, complains of cough & dyspnoea, attended with copious expectoration of a matter of a yellow colour & bitter taste. He is affected also with pain of his breast & during the night he is often attacked with cold fits followed by heat & sweating. He is likewise affected with oedematous swellings of his legs & thighs & sometimes of his face These increase towards night & leave a slight impression of the finger, but they always disappear in the morning. They are in general cold to the feel. Pulse 89 & small, tongue clean belly regular, urine scanty & of a high colour The cough & sweating have been of four weeks standing. The swellings only took place about a fortnight ago. He knows no cause for these complaints & he enjoyed good health before their commencement Rx. Pulv. Crem Tart ℥ i.
