    James Scott

    1786

    No 7th November 10th 1786.

James Scott at 17 by trade a wright with dark hair & an unhealthy appearance, complains of pain in his right side, dyspnoea & cough, with the expectoration of a viscid matter of a yellow colour, & sweetish taste. He is also affected with universal lassitude on going about his usual business. He has likewise especially in the afternoon cold fits succeeded by heat & sweating, during which he complains of pain in his joints.

Pulse 68 & small. Skin cool at present, Tongue clean, & red towards the point. Appetite good, belly regular. But he sweats very much during the night.

The above symptoms came on six weeks ago, with pain & weakness in his joints & the cold fits in the afternoon. The cough has only been present two weeks.

He ascribes these complaints to an over-exertion of strength, in using a large hammer. At that time he had the feeling as if his sternum had given a crack, but it was without pain. He always enjoyed good health before the above accident.
