Martha Anderson at 19. unmarried is constantly distressed with headache & is affected with a sense of weight & considerable pain under the sternum, increased by pressure & somewhat impeding respiration at times; she complains also of short cough in the morning. She is often troubled with cardialgia, acid eructations & sometimes with Flatulency. & she now & then feels a degree of globus hystericus rising to her stomach. She observes that her ankles & hands swell considerably at night. Pulse 65 of good strength. Thirst increased. Appetite impaired. Tongue clean, Belly regular, Catamenia have [hardly] appeared for three months past & have been very irregular ever since her first menstrual, which happened only two years ago. She does not now feel any molimina at her usual menstrual periods. She has been troubled with the stomach complaints & headache for many years & says she has been rather unhealthy from her infancy though of healthy parents. Has used an Emetic with some relief. Cap. Pil. Aloet gr V om m. 11th The pills in general give her two stools in the day, there is no appearance of the menstrual discharge, & her other symptoms continue much as before particularly the sickness & sourness at stomach.
