    John Farquharson

    1786

    No26th January 13th 1786

John Farquharson at 22 a currier of a stout habit & healthy appearance complains of a very severe looseness, often attended with violent gripes, & sometimes with tenesmus. He is also affected with flatus & borborygmi; & he is sometimes troubled with acidity in the stomach. Pulse rather slow but full & regular. Tongue clean. Thirst great in general, appetite bad.

The above complaints commenced about three months ago since which he thinks the gripes & tenesmus occur less frequently & with less violence. But the diarrhoea has rather increased

He imputes his disease to cold

He was formerly very healthy & none of his relations are liable to such disorders.

February 4th Had a severe return of the looseness on Monday, which he ascribed to his powders, & he has taken none of them since Wednesday last. But has continued the use of the pills. His looseness is again considerably diminished.
