    Sarah Allan

    1785

    No25. December 30th 1785.

Sarah Allan at 17 unmarried after taking food is always attacked with severe sickness, acid eructations & sometimes vomiting & when her stomach is empty she is distressed with a violent acute pain in the epigastric region, which is sometimes so great as to induce a tendency to syncope. She is liable at times to distension of the stomach & to gripes in the belly.

Pulse about 70 & pretty strong. Tongue, thirst & catamenia natural. Appetite as she says much more keen than natural.

These complaints have troubled her about seven weeks. They came on without any manifest cause & as far as she knows none of her relations were subject to stomach complaints. She says she is originally of an unhealthy constitution & has been subject for several years to complaints of the bowels.

She has used Emetics & Purgatives without relief.
