William Gardner at 7. a tolerably stout child with dark hair & eyes, complains of violent pain in his belly, particularly on going to stool at which time he is frequently distressed with Tenesmus. He starts & shrieks in his sleep, but does not grind his teeth. however he frequently picks his nose in the day time. Appetite impaired. Belly rather loose. Pulse natural at present but subject to changes. His face often flushes, & he has frequent hot fits, chiefly in the day but sometimes too in the night. About six months ago he passed a large worm of the lumbricus kind about half a yard long & about a year ago, he discharged three smaller worms of the same kind. on the 11th he had some Calomel Pills, & a purgative, which operated by stool but produced no discharge of worms or alleviation of symptoms.
