William Allan at 46 is troubled with excruciating pains in his left side, situated in the region of the kidney, directly under the last of the false ribs. Sometimes the pain passes upwards, till it arrives under the left ear, & is sometimes so vehement, that he is found to decline his head, to the right. He finds no difficulty in passing his urine, which is in due quantity & of the natural colour. Belly regular, appetite good Pulse 72. He was seized with the present complaints about the beginning of harvest. In no long time however they disappeared & it is only about three weeks, since they made their appearance a second time. He has used no medicines. Cap. Pil. Theb. grX om. m. & Rx. Ol. Terebinth. Tinct. Theb. aa ℥ I, Axung Porcin ℥ii. ter opt simul, ut. f. Ungt. Illin paux. p. app. dol. om. m. & vesp. 12. Has taken the pills, & applied the ointment as directed. But his pain still continues to be very severe & he sleeps little during the night Interm. Med & ap. vesic. p. dol. 19. There was a copious discharge from the blister & since that he has been almost entirely free from the fixed pain. But he still complains of much uneasiness from flatulence. Belly natural. Cap. Pil. Foetid grV om. m. & vesp. 26. The foetid pills have had no effect in moving his belly. He has been very costive since the last report & he is much [distressed] with pains in his belly. Cap. Pil.
